Leadership and Life After Shuttle
by Marshall Heard
At
the October 23,
2008 Boeing Space Coast Leadership Association (BSCLA) meeting, our speaker
was Marshall Heard, a retired Boeing Executive who finished his 34 years
with The Boeing Company
here in Florida.
Mr.
Heard came to Florida after the
acquisition and merger to share with us how Boeing does business. The bullets from his presentation are below but the real gems
were the actual Boeing stories that went along with each point. We
learned about the Boeing Boat business, the early 747 decisions,
Tankers, Rotor-craft, China, cruise missile failures, strikes, ethics
failures, time management and board decisions. It was an informative and
motivating evening for all who were in attendance. Mr. Heard shared
PowerPoint slides with dynamic information on Conduct of a Leader,
Planning, People (including yourself), and Development Programs.
The evening
concluded when Mystery Hand Shaker Christina Martin (formerly Spialek),
selected Nicolas Charalambous as the winner of the $20.00. Nicolas then
drew David Bethay’s name from the basket for the 50/50 winnings. David
graciously donated his winnings to the Scholarship Fund. BSCLA, VP,
Shirley Jenkins then announced BSCLA’s upcoming activities, and
adjourned the meeting. Article written by Tim LaMunyon, BSCLA
Member.

2009 Scholarship Fundraiser
The
Boeing Space Coast Leadership Association, National Management
Associa-tion (BSCLA), Chapter 629 began selling Plush Land Bears
approximately two weeks ago in an effort to raise money for the 2009
Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to local high school
seniors who will be attending college after graduation. Last year this
chapter was able to award approximately $8000 in scholarships as a
result of this and many other fundraisers. The chapter currently has
raised $270 for next year's scholarships from this fundraiser. More
bears are available for sale, so if you want to support this great cause
by purchasing a bear or more, please see the Coordinator in your work
area.
